Number 4 was built in 1923 by HK Porter as a tank engine. It was first used in construction of the Tallahasee power dam in Tennessee. It was then sold to the Dresser Traprock Company in Dresser, Wi and used to haul traprock to the crusher. Richard and Robert Thompson along with Doug Alexander purchased it in 1963. It was stored until it was moved to its present location in 1965. We maintained it and fired it up a couple times a year. In 1977 we started to convert it to a tender engine. By 1981 it had a new "NP" style cab and an added tender we had purchased from the Duluth and Northeastern Railroad in the 1970's. The tender was from locomotive # 1 built by ALCO Cooke Plant in 1907. The locomotive had been scrapped in the 1950's and the tender was used to service the stationary boiler in the engine house. Although the tender is a little long it still is a nice match to the locomotive. The drawbar we fabricated to connect the tender to the engine is actually a side rod from D&NE RR #30. We continue to run it on occasion, usually once or twice a year.
