Missouri Kansas Texas day coach # 1207 was built in 1955 by Pullman-Standard It was built and used for service on the “Texas Special” which was a joint owned by the MKT and the Frisco and was a state to state train. The coach was lettered “The Texas Special” and MKT and was named “Denton” after the town of Denton, Texas. The colors were bright red on the roof and ends with a same color red stripe following the windows. In 1965 the two railroads discontinued the train and the 1207 and the rest of the train were put up for sale. In 1966 the Northern Pacific purchased the 1207 and the other coaches and put them in service on the “Mainstreeter”. The 1207 was renumbered 529 and the roof and ends were painted Pullman green. The sides were plain stainless and all it had was the railroad name and number on it. In 1970 the Burlington Northern was formed and in the early 1970’s the Northern Pacific name was taken off and a large Burlington Northern sign was put on each side. The coach was then renumbered 6402. The BN used this coach in their passenger service until Amtrak was formed in 1971. It was then sold to Amtrak and used until 1977 when it was sold. The coach was used on the Twin Cities to Chicago run through the 1970’s and even the run to Duluth. It was Purchased by Merle Smith and brought up to Hinckley, MN where it was moved 4 miles west and was put back on track, had a building built on each end and was used as a cabin. The whole interior was pretty much left intact with the exception of the seats which were removed. The 4 toilets in the car were also removed and used for storage. After the death of Merle Smith in the late 1990’s the land was sold and Erik Thompson of the Ironhorse Central Railroad Museum Purchased the car. On December 5th 2002 the car was moved to the Ironhorse Central Railroad Museum for permanent display.
